ACCIDENT.jpgDECATUR, Texas — An Alabama couple were killed Tuesday morning in a
three-car wreck on U.S. 380 a couple of miles east of Decatur.

Carlton
A. Bennett, 74, and his wife, Meriam Beatrice “Bea” Bennett, 71, of Grove Hill,
Ala., both died at the scene.

The driver of another vehicle involved in
the crash, Judith Hatfield Lambert, 72, of McKinney was injured and
taken by ground ambulance to Denton Regional Hospital, according to the Wise County Messenger.

The third
driver, Laura Patterson, 46, of Krum was not injured. Witnesses reportedly told state troopers that Lambert
was westbound when her sports utility vehicle drifted into the
eastbound lane, where it hit the Bennetts’ car head-on.

Carlton Bennett worked as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers local 653. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 751 in Gilbertown, according to obituary information received by the Press-Register.

Carlton Bennett’s survivors include 2 daughters, Theresa Jackson of Toxey and Sandy Dunagan of Coffeeville; one sister, Faye Cox of Gilbertown; and 6 grandchildren.

Bea Bennett’s survivors include a son, Charlie Johnson of Collinsville, Miss.; 3 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.      

Visitation for the Bennetts will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral at Thompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill. Burial will be in Thompkins Church Cemetery in Grove Hill.

Arrangements are being made by Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown.
