The October 2008 fundraiser for Gov. Bobby Jindal was held in conjunction with the LSU-Florida football game.Gov. Bobby Jindal has been raising plenty of cash for his 2011
re-election campaign through a string of out-of-state fundraisers. But
at least $30,000 of the haul will be donated to charity after the
co-host of an October 2008 event in Florida was accused of orchestrating a $1 billion Ponzi scheme. The money was funneled to Jindal’s campaign by Scott Rothstein,
a South Florida lawyer with a reputation for donating heavily to
politicians from both major parties.
Rothstein served as co-host of an
Alachua, Fla., event held in conjunction with the LSU-Florida football
game. He has since been accused by federal authorities of selling
investments in nonexistent legal settlements. Kyle Plotkin, a Jindal
spokesman, said the governor plans to donate the money “to a
compensation fund for the victims of the investment fraud, when such a
fund is created.”
