The Midfield City Council did not pass a projected $3.8 million fiscal 2010 budget on its first reading Monday night.
The ordinance failed on a 3-2 vote. Councilmen Jimmy Robinson and Terry Adams both voted not to pass the budget, which required unanimous consent for passage on its first reading. Robinson said he wants to see more “cushion” in the budget.
Mayor Gary Richardson said the council had two hearings on the proposed budget and had agreed to its passage. Richardson questioned where additional cuts could be made.
The budget projects $3.8 million in revenues and a surplus of about $7,500. It does not include cost-of-living raises for city employees. A second vote on the budget is expected at the next regular meeting.
