Wings-1106.jpgA ground crewman talks on a radio as a Boeing B-17G ‘Flying Fortress’ approaches for a landing at the Shelby County Airport in Calera on Friday. Three World War II combat aircraft are on display at the airport as part of the Collings Foundation Wings Of Freedom tour. Walk-through tours are available of the bombers, including a ‘Flying Fortress’ and a Consolidated B-24J ‘Liberator.’ Rides are available in both bombers as well as the TP-51C ‘Mustang’ fighter. The aircraft will be on display until noon Monday. (The Birmingham News / Mark Almond)
