Golden principles are the ones that really apply. You need to have them in mind and don’t ignore them. Like stars to steer by, they are everlasting markers to guide us and keep us moving in the correct direction.
Live by the principles of everyday Alabama life and everything will go good for you in dixie.
With that in mind, I thought of life in Alabama and a number of of its unspoken “golden rules”. Listed here are five of the most beneficial “Golden Rules” that apply to residing in Alabama.
Golden Rule 1 Choose Between AU or UA! (Some folks might declare it’s most important!): You must decide between Alabama verses Auburn. The reason, that you might like to do that, is simply because everyone you come across will most likely question you who “you are for” and it is always between Auburn & Alabama. Other local colleges like UAB, Troy, JSU, UNA, South Alabama are merely a blip on the radar to the majority of residents of Alabama. You have to choose between the iron bowl opponents. Remember, if you don’t decide, its almost worse than being for the other side. You are considered a fair weather fan.
Golden Rule 2, You Have To Eat Grits… Grits are one of those wonderful southern foods that you’ll find on the breakfast tables in Alabama. They are simply mouth watering with eggs, sausage, and homemade biscuits..
Golden Rule 3, Go To Church. At least two times a year, on Easter or Christmas, it is expected that you go to a local church. Folks will invite you repeatedly if you don’t go to church at all. So get used to it.
Golden Rule 4, Be Polite! Here in the south, we treat people like we would like to be treated and will go the extra mile to help a stranger. . When we are talking to others, we are sure to say please, thank you, & you’re welcome when the need arises. Also, we address our elders by No Sir/Yes Sir and No Ma’am/Yes Ma’am.
Golden Rule 5, Alabama Based Music Gives You Pride! You have to love any music that has something to do with Alabama. This would certainly include every song that the country music group, Alabama recorded, especially “My Home’s In Alabama.” Also, don’t forget Lynyrd Skynyrd and “Sweet Home Alabama.” It is like a state anthem here!
If you follow these golden rules to living in Alabama, you will find that life will be a little sweeter here in the heart of dixie!

One of the biggest men in college football last year, Terrence Cody, at 6 foot 4 in. tall and 350 pounds, has changed the way that colleges look at bigger players. A awesome run stopper can make a world of difference for football squads wishing to free up their linebackers.
It’s my opinion that increasingly more we will see giant players, just like Terrence Cody, coming onto the scene in college football. A huge guy at that magnitude in the middle of the defense actively playing middle guard or nosetackle is an extremely valuable tool.
Now don’t misunderstand me, people the dimensions of Terrence Cody with his quickness do not come around all the time. The NFL football team, the Baltimore Ravens found awesome potential in this big guy’s natural skills, size, and speed enough to draft him at number 57 in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft.
It’s not merely proportions that makes the main difference in a guy like this,it is also the speed. The quick initial step off the line, when coupled with the mutliplying power of the bodyweight, it is 100 % pure physics of mass times acceleration equals momentum… and momentum he does have!
The Baltimore Ravens observed a significant drop-off in it’s run defense the very first time this past year, 2009. Running back Cedric Benson of the Cincinnati Bengals rushed for the first hundred yard performance versus the vaulted Ravens defense in over 39 games. Part of the reason is the soft middle of the defensive front line. In 2010,the coaches of the Ravens realized that they needed the big man up the middle of their defense to free things up and so they selected big “Mount Cody”.
Look for big things (no pun intended) out of Mount Cody in the NFL, as well as other massive guys doing much more in college football. Recruiting will get hot for these kinds of players because it proved successful for the Alabama Crimson Tide in winning a 2009 national championship.
So the next time you think of excellent defense, see if you’re able to find a nearby mountain and take a look at it. Your most beloved college football team will almost certainly be hunting for the same thing but only a bit more human!
