Harold takes off for the moon in the Enchantment Theatre Company production of “Harold and the Purple Crayon.”
Artistic Director Landis Smith and the Enchantment Theatre Company are proud to revive “Harold and the Purple Crayon.” This wonderful 56-year-young children’s story by Crockett Johnson was once a book but now is being brought to life at the Prince Music Theater from May 11 to 22.
It tells the story of Harold, a little boy faced with certain challenges who finds imaginative ways to overcome them.
This production has something for everyone and should bring kids and adults of all ages together. The show will also offer many special additions that go beyond the book. Among these additions are exquisite special video animations by Robby Mullanary, which helps to bring the story to life visually.
Landis Smith says that the animations add a “lovely feeling for the show” and are “cheerful, fun, upbeat and happy.”
In addition to animation, expect some terrific jazz music by composer Charles Gilbert, a professor at the University of the Arts, to accompany the production. The play features all original music written and produced by Gilbert and his colleagues. The music features classic and Dixieland jazz, with trumpets, bass and saxophone combining to create the musical background.
This production of “Harold and the Purple Crayon” has toured all across the country and promises to delight area audiences once again.
