ADGER, Alabama — A man found shot to death this morning in his Adger home has been identified as a well-known businessman and resident in the Warrior River community.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the slaying victim as Albert Neal Watson, 79. Watson used to run the grocery store across the street from his home.
Watson was found dead about 9 a.m. this morning when his granddaughter went to the home to take him to the bank. She entered the Betty Hill Road home through an unlocked door and found her grandfather in his basement office.
The call to authorities initially indicated suicide, but once detectives arrived on the scene, they determined foul play was involved. Robbery appears to be the motive.
Jefferson County sheriff’s investigators are questioning a possible suspect, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian. The two are believed to be acquaintances.
Christian said he will release more information as it becomes available.
