Today’s high was 92. The record for July 6 is 99, recorded in 1877.
Thursday: Scattered thunderstorms. Highs in the low to mid-90s. Lows in the mid-70s. Chance of rain 20 to 30 percent.
Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the low 90s. Lows in the mid- to upper 70s. Chance of rain 30 to 40 percent.
Forecast by WKRG’s Chief Meteorologist Alan Sealls:
Scattered thunderstorms continue every day into the weekend, with highs in the middle 90s. If you get a storm right over you, expect a half inch to two inches of rain since summer storms move slowly.
A viewer asked me the other day if the storms might produce tornadoes. Not likely. We’re past the time of year where wind shear creates enough spin in the atmosphere for significant twisters. Although, in the high plains, tornado season continues.
I had a chance last month to go on a tornado hunt in the plains. I spotted wall clouds and funnel clouds but no tornado touchdowns. I did get some really good storm photos. Go to www.facebook.com/WKRG.Alan.Sealls to see the awesome displays of nature.
I can understand the concern for tornadoes after this violent spring but for summer, waterspouts are more common, but strong thunderstorms occasionally create damaging wind without a tornado.
