MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The chairmen of the House and Senate ethics committees have sent a letter to legislators saying referral fees from lobbyists are not allowed under Alabama’s new ethics law.
Republican Sen. Bryan Taylor of Prattville and Rep. Mike Ball of Huntsville said Thursday the passage of the law in December created a new day in Alabama.
The 2 legislators sent the letter after testimony in Alabama’s gambling corruption trial showed lobbyist Jarrod Massey paid fees to former Democratic Rep. Terry Spicer of Elba and lobbyist Steve Windom paid fees to Republican Rep. Barry Mask of Wetumpka for several years. The fees were for referring clients to the lobbyists.
