BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — As of 10 a.m. today 56,000 homes and businesses in Alabama Power Company’s service area remained without power due to Wednesday’s storms, said Hallie Bradley, a spokeswoman for the power company.
That’s down from about 64,000 that were without power Saturday night.
Of those customers who remain without power, 25,000 are in the Birmingham area, another 25,000 in the Tuscaloosa area, and about 5,000 in the eastern area of Alabama, Bradley said.
So far, the company has restored a little over 355,000 homes and businesses since Wednesday’s tornadoes, Bradley said.
Alabama Power believes it is still on target to have power restored to 95 percent of those whose power was cut off by the end of day Wednesday, Bradley said.
Utility crews, with 8,670 workers, from 18 states are working to restore power in the Alabama Power Company service area, Bradley said.
