Gov. Robert Bentley and State Forester Linda Casey have lifted the last three countywide “no burn” orders, the Alabama Forestry Commission announced today.

Baldwin, Mobile and Monroe counties were the last three where all outdoor burning had been prohibited due to drought conditions.

Casey also lifted the fire alert that was in place for the other 64 Alabama counties.

Under a fire alert, no burning permits are issued.

Burning permits are still not being issued in the 12 counties under a summer burning ban placed by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. Jefferson and Shelby counties are among those included in that ban, which runs through Oct. 31.

According to forestry commission officials, the state has received enough rain in the last couple of weeks to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire.

However, the commission is still urging people to use caution.

Do not leave a fire unattended, have the necessary equipment and personnel to control the fire, and keep a garden hose or other water supply on hand, the AFC suggested.

Any fire that is more than a quarter-acre in size or within 25 feet of a forested area requires a forestry commisssion permit. Burn permits may be obtained by calling 1-800-392-5679. Burning without a permit is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a fine up to $3,000.
