MONTEVALLO, Alabama — People attending a Memorial Day celebration today at the American Village were urged to not forget those have made the ultimate sacrifice and to show gratitude to those who serve in the military.
At the 7th Annual Blue Star Salute at the American Village, U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. (retired) Larry W. Northington said no words are sufficient for the family who has lost a loved one or a soldier who has lost a limb. “It is important to just say thank you,” Northington said.
Tom Walker, founder and executive director of the American Village, said the day should “be something that sears into our consciousness the terrible price of freedom” and the memory of those who paid for it.
The daylong event included a wreath laying ceremony an a Gold Star Salute in remembrance of the 127 Alabamians who have lost their lives in service since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
