ATHENS, Alabama — A mother in Athens faces criminal charges after authorities found her 5-year-old daughter playing in the street and the woman not at home.

Limestone County sheriff’s department officials say 32-year-old Mariea Tziguin Lorenzo is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She was charged Wednesday after authorities determined Lorenzo took another child to the doctor and left her daughter at home alone.

Officials placed the child with the Department of Human Resources. The child was not injured while in the street.
