BALDWIN COUNTY, Alabama — A number of area judges last week were at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach attending a summer judicial conference for Circuit and District judges.
“It’s basically an education conference,” Presiding Circuit Judge James H. Reid said Friday. “They have a number of updates on the law.”
A winter conference is also held in January, he said.
Courts remained open during last week’s conference, which ran from Monday through Wednesday, Reid said.
Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb addressed attendees on Wednesday. Last month, Cobb announced she would be stepping down in Aug. 1 — nearly 18 months before her term ends to spend more time with her family.
