ORANGE BEACH, Alabama — A small commercial airplane carrying advertising banners crashed this afternoon near Robinson Island in Orange Beach, according to law enforcement authorities.
The Alabama Marine Police said both people aboard the aircraft escaped serious injury.
Orange Beach City Administrator Ken Grimes said in an email that one of the occupants had a cut on his head. Grimes wrote that the plane landed upside down about 40 feet from tourists.
“Pilot did a great job of powering down to land like he did,” Grimes wrote. “We were about 500 yards away. Gotta flip it and float it out.”
