Author: Birmingham City Council President Roderick Royal took a verbal swing at city officials who released a legal department memo to The Birmingham News that outlined allegations of ethical misconduct by Councilwoman Lashunda Scales, Birmingham News writer Joseph Bryant reported.
Scales has denied wrongdoing and Royal called the memo’s release dishonorable, warning other council members they could be future targets of leaks. Royal called for an investigation, but Mayor William Bell was silent on the call.
The online community did not stand silent, a number indicating they believed the leak was the action of a whistle-blower whose actions deserved praise. This response from mimo814 was representative of what some people were saying:
• “A City Official leaks possible incriminating information against a council person to the public, who I really feel has a right to know.
“I think the whistle blower needs a raise myself…and as a resident and taxpayer I salute who ever it is. And I challenge whoever that person is to leak the goods on anybody on any dais at City Hall, Board of Education, County Commission, State House, etc…we need a clean sweep in this City and State. And the last thing we need is an overconfident idiotic City Council President to intimidate that person, whomever it may be.
