Birmingham City Councilman Jay Roberson this week will meet with Jefferson County police chiefs to discuss issues of youth crime and violence and strategies to fight those problems.
Roberson will meet with the Jefferson County Police Chiefs Association during their regular meeting Wednesday.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to get in front of all the chiefs and get some insight,” he said Sunday. “This is an opportunity to get ideas from those chiefs who are dealing with the same issues we are dealing with in Birmingham. This is more of a sounding board opportunity to hear what they have to say.”
Roberson said he was invited to the meeting by Bessemer Police Chief Nathaniel Rutledge.
Disturbed by recent deaths of teenagers and young adults, Roberson late last month called for a summit of Birmingham-area police chiefs and others to develop strategies to combat deadly youth violence.
