The Birmingham Salvation Army is now requiring tornado victims to show more proof that their need is legitimate before they can receive food and other assistance.
Those who arrive at the Salvation Army’s relief center must show identification as well as documentation of the damage they experienced in the April 27 storms. The acceptable kinds of proof include the disaster package people receive after they register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a damage report from an insurance company or a damage report from a licensed contractor/service provider.
To get assistance, storm victims can go to 350 Industrial Drive in Birmingham on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
