BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office late this morning identified the woman found dead at the scene of a Birmingham house fire early Sunday morning.
Classheka Norman, 31, was the resident of 820 Fourth Court West where the fire occurred, Deputy Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates said.
Birmingham police are investigating Norman’s death as a homicide, said Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams.
Norman’s body was found about 4:25 a.m. inside the home, according to Williams and Deputy Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates.
Investigators later found Norman’s gray 2009 Chevrolet HHR abandoned in the 2100 block of South Park Drive, Williams said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the police department’s homicide unit at 254-1764 or Birmingham Crime Stoppers at 254-7777, Williams said.
Evidence found inside the house led police to classify Norman’s death as a homicide, Williams said. The manner of her death has not been released.
A child originally was thought to have been missing from the house, but authorities determined that the child had not been in the house, Williams said. “The child was with a relative,” he said.
No arrests have been made in the case, Williams said.
