Birmingham will operate a “cooling station” at Boutwell Auditorium from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday to offer shelter and water during the hottest part of the day.
The announcement came as the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for most of the state as meteorolgists expect heat index values to reach 105 each day.
The high temperatures for the Birmingham area will be near 98 on Thursday and 100 on Friday.
