Chat live at 1 p.m. today with Joey Kennedy about the Legislature ended, a bingo trial in full swing
The 2011 session of the Alabama Legislature came to an end Thursday. It was a busy session, too, with lots of accomplishments.
The Republican leadership called it the most productive session ever although that’s not always a good thing, though, especially when the state enacts an anti-immigration bill like the one approved. The law likely will cost Alabama taxpayers a lot of money in a court fight, but that’s not the point. The point is to show just how tough Alabama can be on illegal immigration.
Also ongoing is the the bingo-bribery trial in Montgomery. Gambling tycoon Milton McGregor and eight other defendants are on trial for corruption. It took a few days to pick a jury and now, the prosecution is putting on its case. And a federal judge has decided former Gov. Bob Riley won’t need to testify.
It’s all up for discussion during a live chat with News Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial writer Joey Kennedy at 1 p.m. today.
