TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — The city is gearing up for the nation’s birthday with events featuring music, games and, you guessed it, fireworks.
The city is throwing the Independence Day Celebration on the River at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Monday, July 4.
The event will feature the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra playing crowd favorites and excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture choreographed with the grand finale of a firework spectacular.
But there will be more to do than look and listen. You can participate in tug-of-war, water balloon tossing, sack races, laser tag, a bounce house, face painting, magicians, a kid-sized train and a rock-climbing wall on the front grounds of the Tuscaloosa News.
Boaters can enjoy the fireworks from the Black Warrior River and tune into local radio stations to hear the last half hour of the Tuscaloosa Symphony’s performance.
General admission tickets are $5 each or $15 for a family 4-pack. Children 5 and under get in free with a ticketed adult. Amphitheater gates will open at 7 p.m. with celebration starting at 7:30 p.m.
