CLEVELAND, Ohio — A U.S. Coast Guard HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft has arrived at Burke Lakefront Airport in support of the U.S. Coast Guard’s mission on the Great Lakes, the Coast Guard announced.
The fixed-wing turbo prop aircraft, assigned to the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala., is in the region to support Coast Guard missions and increase maritime domain awareness, officials said in a news release. The Ocean Sentry is capable of performing various missions, including maritime patrol, law enforcement, search and rescue, as well as cargo and personnel transport.
“The unique capabilities of the Ocean Sentry aircraft provide us with valuable information crucial in identifying and mitigating potential risks to the Great Lakes public,” Rear Adm. Michael N. Parks, commander of the Ninth Coast Guard District, said in a news release. “Analyzing the data collected by the crew of the HC-144 enables us optimize the application of our resources to make the Great Lakes safer for all.”
