Cordova Mayor Jack Scott’s notoriety has spread as far as Taiwan after his stand again allowing FEMA supplied single-wide trailers into the community to serve as temporary housing for homeless tornado victims. A media company in Taiwan has launched a YouTube video lampooning his stand, which also has drawn intense fire in his community and the rest of Alabama, The Birmingham News reported.
Scott’s anti-trailer stand also has attracted the attention of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley who instructed Alabama emergency management officials to meet with Scott about the town’s prohibition against the trailers, the Associated Press reported. The governor’s press secretary, Jennifer Ardis, said today the meeting has not yet taken place but the governor wants EMA and the mayor to try to find the best solution for housing needs in Cordova.
Bentley already has shown he’s willing to use his office to apply pressure on tornado related issues, criticizing a slow moving clean-up drive by Birmingham officials while praising Tuscaloosa officials, especially the city’s mayor.
In the online community, our commenters offered little support or sympathy for Mayor Scott. Read some of what they’re saying:
• “this dude has failed himself bad…………………………..” — blakeney
• “His heartlessness and stupidity have spread far and wide, but he has dug his heels in so deep that he couldn’t change his mind now even if he wanted to.
“Hey, mayor, you made your bed. Now lie in it!” — mouser
• “I have known Jack for many years. He is not a bad person. He is misinformed. Alabama has many mobile home plants that provide jobs and housing for thousands. I know, I have worked in the industry for 40 years. Jack is letting 1960 thinking cloud his opinion. Jack, wake up you, are as wrong as wrong can be, and you never could hit a good curve ball.” — sociologymj
• “This mayor needs to travel to the land of OZ and find a heart…what a poor excuse for a human being” — alabama the beautiful
• “I think there should be a way to re-call an idiot if elected. They may want to re-count the ballots of the election. I know that the Governor has a lot on his plate right now but he needs to have a long talk with Scotty and maybe he could “Beam Him Up”. This is unreal for him to set on an old Ordnance like that while the people that have lost everything are again being punished for losing everything. No Justice in that. I will wager that what goes around will come around.” — Jimbob183
