PASCAGOULA, Miss. — A 17-year-old was arrested by Jackson County Sheriff’s investigators Wednesday and charged with possession of child pornography, authorities said.
Bryan Nguyen, of Moss Point, was under investigation for more than 3 weeks by the department’s criminal investigation division, which has been using state Attorney General Jim Hood’s Internet Crimes Against Children computer system since January, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said.
“He was charged as an adult,” Byrd said.
The system is used to try to catch people downloading and saving child porn on a computer and often leads to seizure of thumb drives, CDs, DVDs and other image-capturing items.
Nguyen was arrested at his home on Miss. 613 in Moss Point at about 8 p.m., Byrd said.
Byrd said the image seized from Nguyen’s home computer depicted young boys and girls in sexual situations.
Nguyen is the 13th Jackson County man authorities have arrested this year using the system, which employs advanced technologies to track down suspected child predators. There were only 3 arrests on child pornography charges in Jackson County in 2009.
Nguyen was released from Jackson County Adult Detention Center today on $25,000 bail.
If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison for the child porn charge.
