BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — People gathered at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Mini Park on Saturday afternoon for a free concert benefiting disabled veterans. The event, called “Celebrating Our Troops,” was organized to raise money for a nonprofit organization called “Ability Workers Of Alabama.”
 
The group employs disabled veterans and has two contracts pending but must raise at least two months of payroll — $40,000 — to sustain workers until payments from the contracts roll in.
