GULF SHORES, Alabama — Between songs, Jake Snider, lead singer of Minus the Bear, briefly talked to the crowd on a theological subject during the Seattle band’s Saturday afternoon performance at the Hangout Music Festival.

“How’s everybody doing? It’s judgment day. I judge you all: Amazing,” Snider said.

Day 2 of the Hangout Festival is at least as crowded as the first day, with thousands of music fans packing brief shows at five stages ranged across the beach, streets and parking lots surrounding the Gulf Shores venue.

People came from all over the country to see huge acts like the night’s headliner, the Foo Fighters, and lesser-known performers like Big Gigantic.

“I love these guys. I have all their albums,” said Dustin Roberts of Oklahoma City, Colo., who stood with several friends under the Boom Boom Stage’s tent as the band played.

“A group of us came all the way down here to see them and the other great bands here this weekend,” Roberts said. “I know about 30 people going to Bonaroo who told me they’re jealous we got tickets for the Hangout Festival.”

Today’s slate of 26 acts seemed to go fairly smoothly, aside from a brief hiccup when it seemed as if performer Cee Lo Green might pull a no-show.

Audience reaction was muted, but cheers grew as the headliner band slated for later on, the Foo Fighters, walked onto the stage. Green has had two massive pop hits — including one titled “F– You,” more politely known as “Forget You” — but the Foo Fighters have been one of the most successful rock bands in the world for the past decade.

“Looks like we’re playing two shows today,” announced singer Dave Grohl. “Let’s make this the fun one, what do you say?”

Several minutes later, Green arrived and, with apologies, did his set of songs for a cheering audience that a short time before had vented their resentment by chanting phrases such as “Cee Lo Green, Forget You.”

Primus frontman Les Claypool wore a cowboy outfit and a large pig mask among other things as the band played its way at great length through improvised versions some of the band’s biggest hits, including “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.”

Saturday’s temperatures were higher than Friday’s, and refreshing breezes were few and far between. As he listened to Primus, bare-chested 25-year-old Neil Jackson of Baton Rouge wore a British-style pith helmet and a water-bladder backpack.

“I’m doing the safari thing today. I will survive,” he said.
