OPELIKA, Alabama — The Alabama Department of Public Health’s investigation of an E. coli outbreak continues.
The investigation began after 13 children and two adults who visited the Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center’s Splash Park or swam in the facility’s pool between June 4 and June 22 were identified with severe gastrointestinal illness.
The department said Tuesday that five children have tested positive for E. coli, with four children initially hospitalized and two currently hospitalized.
In accordance with federal recommendations, the city of Opelika has treated all facilities at the Splash Park and Aquatics Center, and the facilities are open.
