LEEDS, Alabama — A Birmingham man was killed and two others wounded in an early-morning shooting Sunday in Leeds.

The shooting happened in the Cedar Grove Apartments, 8100 block of Douglas Avenue, just before 2 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Thomas Roy Hill Hopkins, 22, was pronounced dead at 2:22 a.m., according to authorities.

Leeds Police Chief Byron Jackson said two other people were injured: 22-year-old Regina Dozier of Leeds, who was shot in the foot; and 25-year-old Alvin Martin of Birmingham, who was shot in the stomach. Dozier and Martin were transported to UAB Hospital where they were treated and released, Jackson said.

The shooting occurred during an altercation and it is under investigation, Jackson said.

Leeds police and fire officials responded to the call, but they were assisted by Moody police officers, St. Clair County deputies and the Jefferson County Coroner’s, Jackson said.

News staff writer Carol Robinson contributed to this report.
