MOBILE, Alabama — A strong line of thunderstorms rolled through Mobile and Baldwin counties tonight, giving both counties a much-needed respite from the drought.
The National Weather Service said the storm that came through Mobile dumped .86 inch of rain at Mobile regional Airport and about .70 inch at Brookley Industrial Complex.
Other parts of Mobile County, however, got more. A stretch of Interstate 10 from the I-65 interchange to the Alabama-Mississippi line got up to 2 inches of rain as measured by radar readings. An area north of Big Creek Lake and northwest of Semmes did even better, with some areas getting 3 inches or more.
There were no reports of damage, although Mobile police reported a handful of traffic lights temporarily out and Monroe County had a few trees knocked over.
The fast-moving line of storms, fueled by what the weather service called the tail end of an upper-level trough of disturbed air, rolled into Mobile shortly before 8 p.m. and had crossed over to Baldwin County by 9:15 p.m.
