FAIRFIELD, Alabama — City voters go to the polls today to decide whether to renew a 15-mill property tax for the city’s school system. Polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
The 15-mill tax, which costs the owner of a $100,000 home $150 a year, is one of two property taxes used to fund the school system.
The tax accounts for $900,000 of the system’s $18.3 million fiscal 2011 budget. If not renewed, the tax expires Oct. 12.
