BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Jim Carns, a former Jefferson County commissioner and state representative, said today he plans to run for the Alabama House seat being vacated by Rep. Greg Canfield.
Canfield, who was appointed today as director of the Alabama Development Office, replaced Carns in 2006 when Carns left to run for the Jefferson County Commission.
Carns, 70, a Republican, served 16 years in the House and one term on the commission before retiring in 2010. He will seek to represent the 48th District, which includes parts of Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Hoover and North Shelby County.
Gov. Robert Bentley will call for an election to replace Canfield.
