GARY, Indiana — State police say a truck driver from Alabama was struck and killed while standing outside his semitrailer along a northwestern Indiana highway.
Police say 60-year-old Gregory Ingram of Decatur, Ala., had stopped the semi on the side of Interstate 80/94 in Gary on Tuesday for unknown reasons. Ingram was getting ready to climb back into the cab when a pickup truck drifted over from the right lane and the pickup’s passenger-side mirror hit him.
Ingram was thrown onto the pickup and then hit the ground, suffering fatal head injuries.
Troopers ticketed the driver of the pickup for unsafe lane movement. Police say alcohol wasn’t believed to be involved.
