A truck driver from Chickamauga, Ga., who went to a Jefferson County restaurant thinking he was meeting a 14-year-old boy for sex will serve 10 years in prison, U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance announced today.

Tracy Shawn Guthrie, 34, pleaded guilty in February to attempting to entice a child to engage in illegal sexual activity.

Guthrie will remain on supervised release for the rest of his life after completing his prison term and will have to register as a sex offender.

“Internet predators are real, and our children must be protected,” Vance said.

According to court documents, Guthrie chatted online with undercover officers posing as a child.

On Oct. 26, 2010, Guthrie went to meet the boy in the restroom of Arby’s in Vestavia Hills to have sex with him with “enough money for food” offered as payment to the child, court documents stated.

Instead, Guthrie was arrested by officers from Homeland Security Investigations and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force immediately after he entered the restroom.
