MOBILE, Alabama — An 18-year-old girl was attacked with a box cutter by another girl during a fight outside the University of South Alabama Mitchell Center this afternoon, a university official said.

Monaye Howard was treated at the scene by Mobile Fire-Rescue Department paramedics and taken to a local hospital for a facial injuries not considered life-threatening, according to USA spokesman Keith Ayres.
The incident happened about 4:30 p.m., shortly after the Williamson High School graduation at the center, one of three high school graduations that took place there today. Ayres said Howard, the girl with the box cutter and another girl had attended the graduation, but are themselves Vigor High School students.
Ayres said the girls were on USA South Drive, which is just north of the Mitchell Center, when an altercation broke out among them. He said police were still unsure this evening what role, if any, the third girl may have played.
University police were trying to locate the attacker, who Ayres said is a juvenile, and they were appealing to her to turn herself in.
Besides Williamson, Murphy and Mary G. Montgomery high schools held graduations today at the Mitchell Center, according to the arena’s official website.
