FAIRHOPE, Alabama — The Alabama Department of Public Health has lifted a swimming advisory for the waters of Mobile Bay at the Fairhope Public Beach in Fairhope, according to a spokesman with the Baldwin County Health Department.

Based on water samples collected from the location Friday, swimming water quality was declared good, Teddy King with the health department said today in a news release. The swimming advisory had been issued Thursday.

Samples were analyzed for enterococci bacteria. High counts indicate the possibility that other disease-causing germs could be present in the water. These indicator bacteria are inhabitants of the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. The Environmental Protection Agency’s safety threshold for enterococci is 104 colonies per 100 milliliters, King’s release said. Friday’s tests of the water in Fairhope showed levels below the threshold.
