Author: Henry County sheriff’s deputies have reopened a decade-old murder, hoping to find new leads in a case that went cold, according to The Dothan Eagle. Sheriff Will Maddox held a press conference on Thursday to announce the reopening of the investigation of the 2001 murder of Danny Paul Miller, the Eagle reports.
Leslie Ashcraft Essman, 30, of Tuscaloosa, has been charged with aggravated child abuse in connection with the death last year of her infant child, according to The Tuscaloosa News. Her 6-week-old daughter died after being left unattended for more than 12 hours, officials told The News.
Stacey Dewayne West, a 43-year-old man who had been working and living at the Salvation Army’s office in Florence, was killed Wednesday night when he was struck by a car while walking back to the agency’s dormitory on Huntsville Road, the TimesDaily reports.
In Anniston, funeral director Jeffrey Williams will be spending at least two more weeks in jail. After that, according to a report by The Anniston Star, he will find whether a judge will make him serve the rest of a 365-day sentence for misdemeanor misapplication of funds.
In Cherokee County, convicted felon Stacey Mitchell Gardner has been identified by authorities as a “Most Wanted” fugitive after he fled from law enforcement officers this week, according to The Gadsden Times. Gardner’s record includes multiple charges and convictions for weapons, thefts, assaults, escapes and drug-related offenses, the newspaper reports.
