Homewood police are looking for a suspect or suspects connected to a string of vandalism and arsons this week, three involving school property.

Police Chief Jim Roberson held a press conference at City Hall Friday asking for the public’s help in identifying those connected to the arsons.

The first suspicious situation occurred Tuesday at about 8 p.m. when a school bus was vandalized outside the Lee Community Center, Roberson said.

A brush fire was set shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday near the Hermitage Condominiums off Montgomery Highway. Roberson said it happened too close to the condominiums for it to be an isolated brush fire.

Another fire was set Thursday between 6 and 6:40 p.m. at the vacant Magnolia Park Apartments, property the city school board is in the process of purchasing as a future school site.

The latest fire occurred between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Friday when a bus was set on fire near the Homewood Commmunity Center. It totaled about $75,000 in damage and could have possibly spread to the community center, Roberson said.

Roberson said anyone who has any information about possible suspects should call 254-2777, 332-6202 or the Alabama Arson Hotline at 1-800-654-0775.
