HOOVER, Alabama — A Hoover man has been charged with arson in connection to a fire that happened Friday at The Abbey at Wisteria Crest on Little Valley Road, according to Hoover police.

Stephen Craig Watson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail today and was being held on $30,000 bond, according to the jail log.

Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker tonight confirmed the charge was related to the fire, which destroyed the complex’s leasing office and clubhouse, and said more information will be released today.

The two-alarm fire was first spotted on the roof by a passerby about 6 a.m.

The fire sent large clouds of smoke over Interstate 65 and it took until 10:30 a.m. for Hoover firefighters to get the blaze under control.

No one was injured and the actual apartment buildings were spared any damage.
