Synopsis: Hot and humid weather is expected to continue today, with a slight chance of showers in the evening hours. Mostly sunny skies should accompany daytime highs in the low 90s along the coast, with upper 90s expected inland. Overnight, expect a 20 percent chance of rain, with lows in the mid- to upper 70s.

 For Saturday, forecasters called for partly cloudy skies, with a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs should be in the upper 90s, with lows in the mid- to upper 70s. The chance of rain was forecast at 20 percent.

Hurricane watch: Only a few days into the season, National Hurricane Center forecasters have issued alerts on two possible areas of activity — a broad low pressure system in the western Caribbean, and a smaller disturbance in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters called for a 20 percent chance of tropical development for the Caribbean system and a 10 percent chance of development for the Gulf system, as of Thursday evening.
