HUEYTOWN, Alabama — Hueytown man was honored tonight for his role in helping police nab a trio of armed robbers.

Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler presented a commendation honoring Steven Clark Wilbanks during the City Council meeting for his role in helping officers arrest three Bessemer men involved in the armed robbery of Stephens Pharmacy on May 12.

Wilbanks, Hagler said, tipped off police to the armed robbery. Hagler said police could not have made the timely arrests of all three suspects without Wilbanks’ call to police.

Wilbanks is the second person Hueytown police have honored in recent months for their assistance in helping police solve crimes. A Pleasant Grove man was honored recently for helping police capture a pair of burglars.

In other news, the council accepted an $18,000 bid from Forestry Environmental Services to grind-up excess debris the city picked following the April 27 tornado.
