Author: HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — The Huntsville school board hopes to resume this week the interviews of seven superintendent candidates vying to replace Dr. Ann Roy Moore.
Board member David Blair said that board members are waiting to see when the city’s power will be restored. The interviews were initially scheduled for Thursday and Friday last week, but were postponed indefinitely by the devastating storms that ripped through Madison County and left it without power on Wednesday.
“We will probably try to have them this Thursday and Friday,” Blair said.
Blair said all seven candidates were very understanding about the need to postpone.
“Several of them have offered any assistance they can give from their current communities,” Blair said.
The long-distance candidates to replace Moore include Beth Wright, superintendent of Florence County School District 3 in Lake City, S.C.; Brett Springston, superintendent of the Brownsville Independent School District in Brownsville, Texas; Dr. Casey Wardynski, chief financial officer of the Aurora, Colo., school system; Dr. Daniel Brigman, superintendent of the Macon County School System in Franklin, N.C.; and Dr. Eric King, superintendent of Muncie Community School Corp. in Muncie, Ind.
There are also two local candidates for the post.
Retired Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Frank Libutti of Huntsville is president and chief operating officer of Global Solutions 3D, based in New York. Dr. Barry Carroll, superintendent of Limestone County Schools, is also seeking the job.
Carroll is a former principal of Ed White Middle School and director of secondary education for Huntsville City Schools.
