The Alabama Department of Public Health is recommending that emergency workers and others involved in tornado cleanup ensure they are up-to-date on tetanus vaccination.
A tetanus booster is needed if it has been more than 10 years since an individual’s last booster or if the person can’t remember when they last received one, state officials said.
People should contact their medical provider or county health department for availability of tetanus vaccine and clinic times. In some locations, state public health staff will be conducting special vaccination efforts in both the local health department and out in the community.
