MOBILE, Alabama — A federal judge here last week ordered a homeless man jailed pending trial on child pornography charges, ruling that the defendant posed a risk to flee and endanger the community.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Bert Milling Jr. noted that Daniel Francis McKenna II “has no significant ties anywhere,” has a substantial criminal record and arrest warrants from North Carolina and Florida.
Authorities arrested McKenna in April on a trespassing charge at the Port of Mobile and found computer printouts of child pornography in his backpack, according to prosecutors.
Local authorities subsequently dropped the trespassing charge, but a federal grand jury indicted McKenna, 28, on the child pornography charge.
