MOBILE, Alabama — As of this afternoon, more people from Kentucky had purchased tickets to the Distinguished Young Women national finals — as a group — than any other state, event organizers said.
Forty-eight of the 79 Kentucky ticket-holders chartered a bus to travel to National Finals together, said Valerie Shantazio, office manager for Distinguished Young Women headquarters in Mobile.
“They are just about taking over one section in the balcony,” she said. “We try to seat them together so they can have a cheering section.”
Many local residents, Shantazio said, wait to buy tickets at the Mobile Civic Center Theater when they arrive this evening.
“It’s really been amazing,” Shantazio said of the program affiliate in Kentucky. “They say the local program there is unbelievable.”
