BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Leslie Eric Buzbee, the Spanish Fort man acquitted in the 2007 slaying of Bobby Wilson, was arrested this week for failure to pay a fine on drug charges.

Buzbee, 26, owed $478 on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia that stemmed from the investigation into Wilson’s death, according to court records.

Buzbee was targeted as the lone suspect after the August 2007 beating of Wilson inside his Spanish Fort service station.

The following month, investigators executing a search warrant on Buzbee’s Spanish Fort property arrested him on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Wilson died three months later.

A jury acquitted Buzbee of capital murder in late 2009, after 2 previous mistrials. Buzbee pleaded guilty to the drug charge in February and was ordered to pay $200, plus court costs, court records indicate.

Neither he, nor his attorney, John Beck, could not be reached for comment today.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Buzbee again Thursday for failure to pay the fine, and he was later released after paying the fine, according to court records.

Last month, the Discovery Channel television show “On the Case with Paula Zahn” featured the Wilson slaying.
