LENOX, Alabama — Lillian Holland Salter, a lifelong member of the Castleberry United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and piano for more than 30 years, died Friday. She was 89.
Born Jan. 25, 1922, outside Castleberry, Alabama, to Gertrude Davis Holland and Richard Thomas Holland, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the last 3 years in Lenox.
“She was a devoted wife and mother who was known for her peaceful countenance, meticulous homemaking, love for family and friends, and commitment to the Lord Jesus,” relatives stated in her obituary.
Salter worked for the T.R. Miller Co. for about 10 years.
Her husband, Robert C. Salter, preceded her in death. She was interned at a private burial service Sunday at the Buffington Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Salter Shumack; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
