LIPSCOMB, Alabama — Lipscomb police announced today the arrest of a man in the July 11 home invasion and attack on a 14-year-old girl.

The name of the man was not being released pending formal charges, according to a press release issued today by Lipscomb Police Chief Steven Madsen.

The arrest is in connection with the home invasion and assault on the 14-year-old girl in the early morning hours of July 11 by a total stranger, according to Madsen’s press release. The girl’s cell phone was taken during the incident.

Lipscomb detective Warren Powe tracked down the suspect through cell phone call records and the man was arrested on Saturday, Madsen said. “It was just good police work,” he said this afternoon.

“Information obtained from the suspect indicates that this crime was a random act perpetrated by an offender passing through the City of Lipscomb and the motive for the home invasion was to steal the cell phone,” according to Madsen’s press release.

Meanwhile, Lipscomb police are also looking for another man in connection with an unrelated attack of a 19-year-old woman early Friday morning, Madsen said. The attack began as the woman walked out of the city on Avenue K and into Bessemer.

Lipscomb police are working closely with Bessemer police to identify a suspect.

Madsen said the suspect in the first incident is not a suspect in the second incident. The descriptions of the attackers did not match and the man being charged in the July 11 attack was not in the area at the time of the second incident, he said.
