MADISON COUNTY, Alabama – The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has released the names of the recipients of the program’s $2,500 scholarships, including seven local students:

Bob Jones High School: Jason T. Arterburn; Simon K. Lieu; Wayne Xiaowen You.

Home school: Bethany L. Johnson.

Grissom High School: Maura G. Bailey.

Randolph School: Kevin J. Byrne; James L. Van Bebber.

Clark C. Ingram, a student at Randolph, received an Honorary Merit Scholarship, an award that signifies his educational plans or other awards that preclude receipt of a monetary scholarship.

Ingram’s name is included in the list to recognize his performance in the competition.

The scholarship winners were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.

National Merit winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in college.

The release is the second announcement of winners in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. On April 20, about 1,000 recipients of corporate-sponsored merit scholarships were named, and on May 25 and July 11, some 4,300 college-sponsored merit scholarship winners will be announced.
