HOOVER, Alabama — The 52-year-old man charged this week with arson in a Friday fire at the leasing office and clubhouse of a Hoover apartment complex lived at the complex and had an ongoing dispute with management there, Hoover police and fire officials said today.
Stephen Craig Watson, who was arrested Tuesday, remains in the Jefferson County Jail on a $30,000 bond for a second-degree arson charge.
The fire, reported at 5:48 a.m. Friday, originated on the exterior back of the clubhouse for The Abbey at Wisteria Crest apartments and caused extensive damage to the building, officials said.
Investigators questioned Watson about the fire Friday but released him until obtaining a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday.
